Salesforce Refreshes IPhone App

By Doug Caverly

Hardware and software go hand in hand, and can often act to hold each other back. But Apple and Salesforce recently took some steps forward that leave them pretty much in harmony, as Salesforce CRM Mobile has been upgraded to take advantage of the iPhone 3.0 operating system.

A list of new features starts with the long-awaited ability to cut, copy, and paste. As people try to relay what their colleagues and contacts have said, this should make things much simpler and speedier. Look for the flow of incorrect info (remember the game "Telephone"?) to lessen, too.

Then, there's the matter of what Salesforce describes as "calendar-like events." A formal statement invites users to "[m]anage events with ease with a new date-indexed view and a calendar-like interface."

Next, features related to custom filters, cloning records, and converting leads all work pretty much as advertised. The last unusual new feature is probably "Visualforce mobile custom linking." With this, users are supposed to "[c]reate custom mobile links on any object in Salesforce CRM: link from an Account directly to a Yahoo! news site with the latest news about a company, or link to a custom Visualforce page to show all related contacts and their images."

Salesforce CRM Mobile is available for free in Apple's App Store.
