Sega Might Hand Over CRM Account's Reigns

Certain companies will want to find their hats - or at least their best brochures - and get ready to toss everything into the ring. Rumor has it that Sega, the household-name videogame company, is looking for a direct marketing agency to manage its CRM account.

Sara Kimberley reports the supporting evidence, writing, "The review follows last year's restructure of the marketing department. Brand manager Tina Moore was promoted to marketing director for the UK, reporting to managing director Alan Pritchard, while Ben Stevens was promoted to international marketing manager."

Now that everyone's had some time to settle in, a new alliance sounds appropriate.

On the other hand, Kimberley continues, "A company spokesman denied it was looking for an agency." And spokespeople have been known to tell the truth from time to time.

But if Sega is interested in finding a new direct agency, a lot of money's at stake, and given the state of the economy, the development would be even more important than usual. Aside from the matter of immediate payments, reputation boosts could occur, with other companies then following Sony's lead.

This will be worth keeping an eye on in the weeks ahead.
