Hospital System An Ideal Target For CRM Community

By Doug Caverly

America's population is getting older all the time. Changes to the healthcare system may mean that a lot more people will soon have health insurance, too. It could be extremely beneficial to the CRM community, then, if hospitals learn the value of CRM software.

U.S. hospitals recorded 37.5 million admissions in 2008, according to John K. Higgins. In an article published this morning, he then continued, "Yet the hospitals in the U.S. have largely underutilized the customer relationship management tools that could exploit the data in that customer base to create significant increases in business volume and more profitable operations."

This is something that CRM companies, CRM companies' marketing departments, or even individual developers should explore. If a few tweaks to an existing product will make it suitable for this huge market, it'd be good to discover as much.

Or, in the rare instances where CRM software's already found a home in a hospital, folks who are work on the CRM side of the exchange should consider taking another look at it, making sure that everything is working properly and satisfying everyone.

Want a couple more numbers to chew on? Higgins reported, "In a 2008 campaign directed by HDIA, a group of six Florida hospitals used CRM tools to launch a direct mail campaign that generated $1.9 million in new revenue in three months," which made for a return on investment of six to one.
