CRM Giant Alters Exec Lineup

By Doug Caverly

A top company in the CRM industry now itself has a new leader. Lots of them, actually. SAP CEO Leo Apotheker has been replaced by Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe, who will act as co-CEOs. And a few other alterations to the exec lineup occurred at the same time.

Here's a quick list of how things have changed. First, Vishal Sikka has joined the SAP Advisory Board. Second, Gerhard Oswald has been named chief operating officer at SAP. Third, Peter Lorenz has become a corporate officer. Fourth (and coming full circle), John Schwarz has left the SAP Supervisory Board.

Hasso Plattner, a cofounder of SAP, stated as a result, "The new setup of the SAP Executive Board will allow SAP to better align product innovation with customer needs. The new leadership team will continue to drive forward SAP's strategy and focus on profitable growth, and will deliver its innovations in 2010 to expand SAP's leadership of the business software market."

It should be interesting to see what effect (if any) this has on SAP's CRM software. It's possible that SAP will lose a figurative step in the shuffle. Or perhaps everyone will perform extremely well in their new positions, making SAP even more of a competitor in the CRM industry.

At the least, SAP's products will bear close watching over the next year or two.
