For those who are constantly on the internet, there's no avoiding social media. Even if you don't have an account with a service, you still feel the impact through social features on websites. There are many who believe social media will inevitably impact the future of CRM. Is this a prediction with merit, or is it too early to tell?
Gartner conducted a recent study which has shown social software will sky rocket by 2013. The prediction is $1 billion will be spent on social CRM in 2013. If these numbers were to occur, it would represent a 4% increase in market share.
Ed Thompson, vice president and analyst at Gartner said this of the figures, "Over the next three years, social CRM will continue its exponential rise, software as a service (SaaS) will become routine, salesforce.com will reshuffle the market order, and consultants and system integrators will sell their own CRM software."
Salesforce.com has been a huge factor in bringing social media to the world of CRM. They've shown success, as the aspect of targeting individuals through public social information has been a big sale.
The Gartner studied provided legacy statistics to go along with predictions for the future. In 2009, 24 percent was delivered by SaaS. This compares without the virtual nonexistent platform in1 1999. The studied also predicted SaaS use would increase to 32 percent in 2015.
The move towards social based CRM is coming. The shift is going to occur slowly but surely in the coming years. The shift certainly won't be easy for some, but definitely necessary. Especially for those who like to stay ahead of the curve when adopting new strategies.
